Why You Should Visit
Before anything else, I should be honest…
I work here as a bartender. 😂
That also means everything in this article comes from my own experience working behind the bar every week.
If you decide to visit, I’d genuinely love to meet you.
JAM HOUSE is one of Kyoto’s longest-running rock bars, playing legendary rock music from the 1960s through the early 2000s.
You’ll hear artists such as:
- The Beatles
- The Rolling Stones
- Led Zeppelin
- Queen
- Pink Floyd
- AC/DC
- Nirvana
- Metallica
…and countless other legendary bands.
The music comes from an enormous collection of vinyl records and CDs.
That gives the bar an atmosphere that streaming services simply can’t recreate.
If there’s a song you’d like to hear, just ask.
If it’s in our collection, we’ll happily play it.
Depending on how busy the bar is, we sometimes even play songs from our phones if they aren’t available on vinyl or CD.
However, if you’re mainly looking for modern rock or Japanese rock (J-Rock), this probably isn’t the place for you.
JAM HOUSE is all about classic rock.
By the way.
Smoking is allowed at all seats inside the restaurant.
Therefore, if you dislike cigarette smoke, you might want to avoid visiting.
But if you’re someone who wants to smoke but can’t find a place to do so, coming here will solve all your problems haha

JAM HOUSE became one of the very first places they visited.

Before leaving Kyoto, he sent it to me.
It’s still one of my favorite memories from working here.
Meeting people from different countries every day is one of the biggest reasons I love this job.
This is the current owner of JAM HOUSE.
The bar first opened in 1969 and has continued through several generations of owners.
Although the people behind the counter have changed over the years, the spirit of the bar has remained exactly the same.
It’s a place where great music brings complete strangers together.
Final Thoughts
